Speaker profile
Luke Pollard MP was elected as the Member of Parliament for Plymouth Sutton and Devonport in the 2017 General Election and currently serves as Shadow Minister for the Armed Forces.
Luke joined Labour’s Defence team as Shadow Armed Forces Minister in February 2022. In his role, Luke focuses on issues relating to Armed Forces service personnel, including size, recruitment, retention, pay, housing, conditions, wellbeing, diversity and inclusion. Luke has responded in debates for Labour on Defence, including answering urgent questions and statements on the ongoing war in Ukraine.
In March this year, Luke launched Homes Fit For Heroes – a campaign to highlight the poor state of armed forces accommodation and to encourage serving personnel and their families to submit their experiences via an anonymous reporting system.
As the son of a submariner, Luke is extremely proud of Plymouth and the country’s military history and the contribution those serving, forces families, the supply chain and veterans make to our country’s safety. Luke believes it is vital for our country’s national security that Devonport continues to be an essential part of our long term military set up.
During his first four years as an MP Luke worked in the shadow Environment team, serving as Shadow Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs from January 2020 until November 2021.
