Charles Mwangi is the Ag. Director, Space Applications and Utilization who is overseeing Earth Observation (EO), Research, Education and Outreach programs as well as the Research Grant program at the Kenya Space Agency (KSA). He serves in the advisory panel for Africa EO Challenge and EO Farm (initiative of NASA Harvest). He previously represented Kenya as an alternate member of the Programme Board of the Group on Earth Observation (GEO).
Charles previously served in the advisory panels of Stockholm+50 scientific report (main & youth report). He previously served as Coordinating Lead Author to the Sixth Global Environmental Outlook (GEO-6) report on Data and Knowledge chapters and was the co-chair of UNEP’s GEO-6 for Youth, a derivative product of UN Environment’s Sixth Global Environmental Outlook (GEO-6) assessment report for the youth.
He holds a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Control Engineering) from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture, an International Master degree on Space Mission Design and Management from Sapienza University of Rome, Italy. He has also undertaken a Postgraduate course in GIS and Remote Sensing from ITC, University of Twente in Netherlands amongst other diverse training on project management, satellite engineering and remote sensing, and is currently undertaking his PhD in Rome.
