Speaker profile

Lily is an Assistant Professor in the School of Metallurgy and Materials at Birmingham University. She co-leads Birmingham’s Space Research Group, where her current interests lie in Space Situational Awareness, utilising both optical and radar capabilities, as well as promoting the responsible use of space. Her PhD focused on measuring, modelling, and mitigating atmospheric optical turbulence for satellite-to-ground Free Space Optical Communications (as a complementary alternative to space-based radio telecommunications). Lily also teaches Space Systems Engineering and Design and Lunar Module Spacecraft Mechanical Design.  When not working, Lily is an avid rock climber.
