Kenya Country Showcase: Unlocking the Value of the Space Industry for Kenya

Kenya has made significant strides in space science and technology, positioning itself as a key player in the African space sector. The country’s journey into space exploration began in the 1960’s with the establishment of the San Marco Project, a collaboration with Italy, currently called the Luigi Broglio Malindi Space Centre in Malindi. This centre laid the foundation for Kenya’s space endeavours and there are interesting activities taking place at this centre.

In 2017, the Kenya Space Agency (KSA) was formed to promote, coordinate and regulate the country’s space-related activities. The Agency seeks to enhance utilization of space technologies and their related applications for decision support, planning and predictive analytics. It also seeks to develop national space capability, both in the upstream, midstream and downstream segments of the space sector, to create opportunities and support national socioeconomic development.

KSA is prioritizing the promotion and nurturing of the growth of the domestic space industry and space economy through creation of an enabling environment and providing support to start-ups and the space innovation ecosystem. What to hear about our activities and projected plans for the future, join us in this conversation as Mr. Charles Mwangi, highlights some of the interesting developments on space in Kenya.
