Iceland Country Showcase: From Iceland to the Moon, Mars, and beyond

At the dawn of the Space Age, in 1965 and 1967, Apollo astronauts travelled to Iceland to train and conduct geological field research, preparing for their historic Moon landings. Since then, space agencies, planetary scientists, and engineers have continued to utilize Iceland’s unique terrain to test cutting-edge technologies and conduct critical research that shapes current and future space missions.

Iceland’s terrestrial analogs have played a key role in advancing planetary exploration, from supporting the Mars 2020 mission in the search for signs of ancient Martian life to developing technology for the Mars Sample Return. Now, just as the Apollo astronauts did decades ago, Artemis astronauts have returned to Iceland to train and test mission-critical technologies for their journeys to the lunar South Pole.

Join Executive Mission Director and CEO Daniel Leeb for an in-depth discussion on Iceland’s vital role in space exploration. Discover why the Iceland Space Agency is the ideal international partner for your next mission—one that not only reaches for the stars but also paves the way for a more sustainable future here on Earth.
