Professor John Remedios is Director of the National Centre for Earth Observation (NCEO), operated since 2014 through the Earth Observation Science group at the University of Leicester. He is a Physicist but has collaborated across Chemistry, Geography and Biology. His experience is in satellite systems and data for observing the Earth over nearly 40 years working with scientists and with industry: climate, land and ocean temperatures, air pollution and atmospheric gases, land-atmosphere coupling and EO data algorithms. He is currently providing leadership roles for the UK EO Climate Information Service, the EO Data Hub and the UK net-zero verification project GEMMA. Professor Remedios serves as an adviser to government (UK Space Agency, DSIT and Defra), particularly through advisory committees, Space4Climate, the UK international GEO/CEOS office and he supports the Space Partnership. The NCEO’s major stakeholder is the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), within United Kingdom Research and Innovation (UKRI).
