Legal and Regulatory Tools Shaping the Future of the Space Economy

The rapid expansion of the space economy demands robust legal and regulatory frameworks to ensure sustainable and responsible access to, and activities in, space while encouraging innovation. However, with an increasing number of space-faring nations, space-emerging nations and commercial operators, navigating the regulatory landscape has become increasingly complex.
This panel will explore the evolving role of legal and regulatory mechanisms in shaping the space economy. Moderated by Joanne Wheeler MBE, the discussion will be divided into three distinct segments: Forum Shopping and evolving Regulatory Best Practices, Rendezvous and Proximity Operations (RPO) (as an example of an innovative activity) and Sustainability. Each segment will analyse the existing legal structures, challenges and opportunities for improving governance to foster innovation while ensuring a fair and sustainable space environment.
