Assessing Risks, Regulations and Economic Viability in Space Sustainability and Debris Mitigation

This panel will address the urgent challenges and opportunities in managing space sustainability, focusing on mitigating debris and the broader implications for the industry.

With satellite launches increasing and LEO becoming more congested, the panel will explore unconventional yet pressing questions:

Are current mitigation efforts sufficient or merely a stopgap? Is the cost of active debris remediation justified by its benefits, or is it an undue burden on emerging commercial ventures? How do data-sharing initiatives across borders and sectors contribute to a safer LEO environment?

The discussion will also cover the role of international regulation and compliance, balancing diverse interests and how to minimise the impact of uncontrolled LEO expansion. It will bring together industry, government, and academia to debate these pivotal aspects and explore pathways towards a safe, sustainable future in space.
