In an era of increasing space activity and geopolitical tensions, this roundtable will convene ambassadors/high commissioners, defence and air/space attaches, and leaders of international space agencies to address the critical role of diplomacy in maintaining a peaceful, secure, and sustainable space environment.

 

Key discussion points will include:

  • Enhancing international cooperation: Exploring strategies to foster collaboration among nations to tackle shared challenges such as space debris management and space traffic coordination.
  • Promoting responsible behaviour: Discussing the importance of transparency and confidence-building measures to ensure responsible actions by all space actors.
  • Addressing security concerns: Examining diplomatic efforts to prevent the weaponization of space and protect space assets from potential threats.
  • Sustainable space practices: Highlighting the need for sustainable exploration and utilization of space resources, and how diplomatic channels can facilitate the sharing of best practices.
  • Engaging stakeholders: Considering ways to involve both public and private sectors in promoting the benefits of peaceful and sustainable space activities.
